Beetroot to me is my natural blood tonic. Beetroot as we know is a root vegetable and just like marmite you either love it or hate it? I hate marmite but I LOVE beets!!

A lot of people are put off by the earthy taste of beetroot but if you get the right smoothie mix you will never have to worry about that earthy taste.

Beetroot is a good source of iron and folate. It also contains nitrate and magnesium. More recent health claims suggest that beetroot can help lower blood pressure, boost exercise and performance.

I can personally speak on the exercise boost and performance as I drink a beetroot smoothie before and after I exercise and I feel great.

My Heart BEETS For You Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

1 Raw Big Beet

2 Red Apples

2 Slices of Ginger

4 Pineapple rings

2 Raw tomatoes

A tall cup of coconut water

Toppings :dry coconut flakes (optional)

SWAPS

Keep Beets

Keep Red Apples

Keep Ginger

Swap Tomatoes for Red grapes

Swap coconut water for water

Swap Pineapple for mango or banana

Add toppings of your choice

PREPARATION

Wash, peel and chop your beets and the stalk into small pieces and place them in your blender, add your base and blend for  one minute. Add your other ingredients and blend on FULL power until it is smooth. Serves two people.

Remember you have to put in the work to see the results.
